Hey Buddy Blend - filter roast
Unbeatable for filter, cold brew & plunger, Hey Buddy is made up of our best and favourite seasonal single origins.
As of Summer 2017, Hey Buddy is a 50:50 blend that's 100% Ethiopian and 100% natural process - fantastic news if you like a bright, fruity and flavourful cup, the Ethiopia Aricha and Gugufe are two gorgeous coffees from one of our favourite growing regions; sweet, syrupy and aromatic. We select, roast and blend our Hey Buddy coffees for a profile that is bright and beautiful with notes of strawberry jam up-front, hazelnut mid-palate and a clean milk chocolate finish.
What is a filter roast? Roasted to a lighter profile than espresso, a filter roast allows the coffee to retain more of the distinctive origin characteristics such as florals and fruits and also preserves more of the sweet acids and aromatics. Each profile is carefully designed to highlight these attributes while also developing the roast so that body and sweetness are present in the cup. This means that filter roasts are slightly less soluble, and better suited to the slower brewing conditions of filter coffee, including plunger (french press) and cold brew.
Cold Brewing? Our recipe is designed for the Hario or Bruer. We recommend a ratio of 1:8.5 (or 60g medium-coarse coffee to 510ml filtered water) for a concentrate suitable for dilution with ice, water or milk. For best results, begin by opening the water valve fully to allow enough water through to saturate the coffee evenly. Close the valve and wait ten minutes, discarding any coffee that drips through in this period. Re-open the valve to one drip every two seconds, maintain this rate through the rest of the brew.
We love the flavours of our Hey Buddy so much, we created a delicious specialty chocolate bar in collaboration with neighbourhood chocolatiers Monsieur Truffe to replicate it's sweet, nutty, fruity profile - in chocolate! It features crushed hazelnuts and freeze-dried strawberries, goes extremely well with coffee and you can find it here.
