Perla Verde (or 'green pearl') is a farm owned by Yazmin Mendez in the Malacatancito region of Guatemala. Sweet, smooth and delicately floral, this gorgeous Guatemalan displays clean, bright notes of Darjeeling tea, honey and lemon.

The Perla Verde coffee farm is entirely owned by Yazmin Méndez, who bought the farm in 2010. Before being converted to coffee-producing land, it was used for forestry harvesting, timber and wood. Yazmin has a key interest in furthering her knowledge and techniques for soil preservation and nutrition, and is concentrating on planting shade trees such as Inga, a common shade plant whose pods are sometimes used for medicinal purposes as well.
The coffee at Perla Verde is picked ripe, depulped, and fermented in tanks for 18–30 hours before being channel-sorted and washed. It is dried on cement patios for approximately 32 hours.
Coffee in Guatemala
Despite its relatively small size, Guatemala’s coffee-producing regions have distinct regional profiles that are influenced primarily by varieties and microclimate.
Huehuetenango is arguably the most famous (and difficult to pronounce—it is generally said “way-way-ten-AN-go”) region, and has the highest altitudes in the country, as high as 2,000 masl. Crisp malic and citrus acidity, full body, and toffee sweetness mark these coffees, which tend to be the most fruit-forward and can be the most complex of what Guatemala has to offer.
Alongside the gorgeous Perla Verde and also hailing from South America is a single serve of Cascara Tea. Cascara is the husk of the coffee cherry and when brewed as a tea, exudes flavours of rosehip, cherry and cola. We've sourced ours from Hacienda Sonora, in the Central Valley of Costa Rica.
Cascara tea instructions: Add 5g of Cascara to 250ml just boiled water. Brew for 5 mins before straining and serving. Add sugar if desired. Enjoy!
