Helor 101 Grinder
Our in-house grind experts agree: the Helor is the best hand-grinder we’ve ever seen. The designers - mechanical engineers and coffee drinkers at our Brunswick café - have redesigned a home-brewing staple with unbelievable attention to detail, quality and longevity and the Padre team are excited to partner with them and offer the grinder to you.
With an outer body crafted from a single piece of 6000-series aluminium (that’s the same material as the iPhone 6) the Helor is built to be light, tough and effective. Even after hundreds of uses, the moving parts contained in the aluminium body stay in place, with the result very high grind precision and consistency.
The high precision rolling bearings are ceramic, so they’re washable, odourless and will never require lubrication, and the burrs are commercial-grade stainless / alloy, designed to give great results over hundreds of uses and, eventually, to be easily replaced.
Grinding adjustments are stepless and self-locking, so you can set and reproduce your grind with the same precision and accuracy. With comparable grind quality to an electric grinder, the Helor has multiple advantages – it’s light, compact, durable and easy to maintain with fully replaceable parts and zero wastage. Every element of the grinder has been carefully considered, from the handle – bent, to minimise the force required, to the packaging, which is minimal, classy and 100% recyclable.
TWO CHOICES OF BURR SETS
To guarantee the best grind possible for your brew method, the Helor team have sourced two slightly different commercial-grade burrs, each with its own set of advantages, aimed at the fine and coarse end of the grind spectrum respectively. That said, in our testing we’ve found that each set of burrs performs very well outside of its ‘specialty,’ too. We recommend choosing the burr set for your favourite brewing-style but not hesitating to try it out for others, too.
The Conventional burr set, better suited for slightly coarser grinds and ideal for filter coffee, is made of washable Martensitic stainless steel and rates 54-58 HRC.
The Contemporary burr set, made in Italy, is best suited to fine and very fine grinding as for espresso & stovetop coffee. The Contemporary burr set is metal alloy, rated 64 HRC on the Rockwell hardness scale (that’s very hard.)
Unlike the great majority of hand grinders on the market, the Helor is designed to last a lifetime. The high quality components are made to last, although (because nothing lasts forever) each part is also individually available for replacement with support from the wonderful Helor team. The grinders are easily dis-and-reassembled, no fiddly recalibration needed, and tough enough to withstand more than the usual wear and tear.
